Our mission is to offer a comprehensive suite of routine and specialty analyses together with highly personalized project management. We also offer method development, data verification, consulting, QAPP reviews and instrument training.

Our Facilities

smart building

building technology

All laboratories within our facility are equipped with specialized HVAC systems with HEPA filtration to maintain positive pressure in individual labs. Our class 100 hoods, Milli-Q Reagent Water Systems, clean benches for ultra-trace metals analysis, and state of the art extraction hoods minimize sample contamination and employee exposure to chemicals.

JEL has invested heavily in an Advanced Power Structure backup system to provide uninterrupted power to all major components in the laboratory eliminating downtime due to power surges and weather related power outages.

Security

Our building is secured by an access control system that electronically logs all entry and exits from the building and visitors are escorted at all times by lab personnel when inside the facility.

The interior and exterior of the building is continuously monitored via a comprehensive CCTV system. All computer hardware is located within a dedicated server room equipped with an independent HVAC system providing optimal operating temperatures for the equipment.

JEL has been a pioneer in utilizing research grade instruments in a commercial environmental lab setting in Florida, utilizing Dual Micro ECDs for low-level pesticides detection, the latest ICP-MS for trace metals analysis, SIM method for low level detection limits on EPA method 8270 and most recently the high performance AB Sciex QTrap 5500 LC/MS/MS for the analysis of personal care products, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and drugs.

Special Capabilities

Pharmaceuticals & Personal Care Products (PPCPs) and Endocrine Disruptors

Jupiter Analytix provides testing for PPCPs and Endocrine Disruptors. This testing is done by the latest generation HPLC/MS/MS, providing the lowest detection limits available for these emerging substances of concern (ESOC).

Real-Time Drug Monitoring Program

Jupiter Analytix provides schools with Real-Time Drug Monitoring (RTDM) — the first and only unobtrusive drug identification and measurement program of its kind. Educators will know what kind, how much, sudden increases, when usage changes, and if new drugs are being introduced to the student body. RTDM empowers educational systems with information to achieve a safe, drug-free environment so our children can thrive.

special projects

Research project for the Monroe County Mosquito Control District and Adapco, Inc. on the efficacy of a larvaecide used worldwide. This project required the development of a sampling/analysis program over multiple sites. Research grade protocols were utilized to ensure the integrity of the project. Data provided by JEL to the R&D department of the manufacturer will be used in ongoing studies to improve the delivery system of this product. Long term research project for chlorine substitute product being introduced to the market. This project consisted of creating and performing a long-term field study/laboratory analysis

Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Product Analysis

Jupiter Environmental Laboratories. Inc. (JEL) is one of the first commercial labs to offer analysis of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products by EPA Method 1694. We have optimized this method to correctly identify very low concentrations of over 75 PPCP compounds of concern utilizing High Resolution LC-MS/MS.

EPA method 1694 was developed to screen wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) matrices – influent, effluent and bio-solids – for a wide range of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCP). Jupiter Environmental Laboratories  screens samples from a wide array of matrices to profile the occurrence of PPCPs. Our laboratory utilizes state of the art instrumentation including AB Sciex’s 5500 QTrap Mass Spectrometer and Agilent Technologies’ latest 7010 GC QQQ providing us the unique capability to analyze ultra-low levels (sub parts per billion) of these contaminants in soil and water.

Fig 1: Simultaneous Detection of over 75 PPCP Compounds via MRM

The EPA 1694 analytical method is performance based, i.e. it is left up to individual laboratories to optimize instrumentation and protocols to obtain the best results.

Our utilization of the 5500 QTrap coupled with Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) allows us to consistently detect and quantitate drugs of abuse, herbicides, PFCs PFOAs, PFOS, hormones, Sucralose, Acetaminophen and pharmaceuticals in complex and varied matrices (Fig 1).  JEL analytical staff, recruited from top tier research institutions, have significant doctoral research backgrounds providing clients with the utmost confidence in the analytical results.

Endocrine Disruptors, PCPPs, Pesticide

JEL strives to be your partner in fulfilling all your testing needs and has repeatedly set the standard for quality and excellence in the field of environmental analysis.  We have been providing analytical services for over 21 years and are highly regarded for   providing a friendly and personal experience while offering an easy and cost effective solution to all your environmental testing needs.

PFOS and PFOA

The Nature of PFAS Compounds

PFASs are a family of fluorine containing chemicals used extensively in industrial and commercial products. This class of synthetic compounds has become very persistent in the environment and bioaccumulates in the human body. The most common of the PFASs, PFOS and PFOA are used extensively in commercial applications such as aqueous film forming foams (AFFF), leather products, textiles, semiconductors, coatings, cleaning products, food packaging and pesticides. These compounds are very resistant to normal environmental degradation and are found in soil, water, air and tissue throughout the United States, potentially impacting the environment, edible crops and human health.

Jupiter Laboratories PFAS Analysis

• PFOA and PFOS • EPA Method 8321 by LCMSMS (AB SCIEX 5500) • Standard list of 13 Perfluoro compounds: • PFOA • PFOS • PFDS • 8:2 FTS • 6:2 FTS • PFNA • PFDoA • PFDA • PFHxS • PFBS • PFHpA • PFHxA • PFBA. Extended compound list available

Technology and Research

As a local Florida based laboratory with many years of experience in advanced research and development analysis for emerging contaminants of concern we can provide fast response to your personal care and PFAS analysis needs. Utilizing the latest generation of LCMSMS allows us to assist you with method development, provide technical assistance and provide unparalleled data quality. Sunscreen & Reefs

Concerns & Solutions

Recent concerns on the effects of sunscreen on the world’s coral reefs is prompting research into chemicals suspected to be harmful. This work is conducted in the LC MS MS laboratory where we have a Sciex 5500 QTrap mass spectrometer coupled to a Spark Holland HPLC. This project was led by analytical chemist Dr. Amanda Graves and investigates common contaminants of concern such as Oxybenzone, Methyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Heptyl Paraben, Triclosan , Octyl methoxycinnamate and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor.

Reefs at Risk movie

Set on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, “Reefs at Risk” explores the harmful effects some sunscreen chemicals have on coral reefs and marine life. In order to protect this fragile ecosystem, Hawaii strives to ban a commonly used UV chemical, called oxybenzone, and hopes that other states and nations will follow.
